Puppy Mills Bad, Breeders Good?
Everyone bashes puppy mills–and the bashing is richly deserved. However, I fail to grasp why non-puppy mill breeders get away with adding to our existing cat and dog overpopulation problem.
No matter how well breeders are treating their products, they are still in business to make money from their inbreeding. But that’s almost irrelevant.
For each animal produced and sold, an animal in a shelter or sanctuary will not be adopted, and many will be killed. Therefore, breeders of every kind are directly responsible for the overpopulation of cats and dogs, as well as the two BILLION dollars (annually) it costs to capture, care for, and euthanize the six to eight million dogs and cats who end up in shelters each year.
What’s that they say about being part of the problem?
