On Killing Cows to Save Elephants

While reading a blurb about the much-anticipated Babycakes cookbook at Forbes.com (gluten-free, vegan baked goods galore. Here's the book.) my eye caught the "Christian Louboutin Limited-Edition Sandals $895" and I couldn't resist clicking.

And there, my friends, was perhaps the ugliest pink shoe I have ever seen. Yes, it was the only pink shoe I've ever seen, but still. Judge for yourself.

The "ForbesLife Find of the Day" is this 4.75" shoe (and the one for the left foot, as well). And it's not just their beauty, height and exclusivity that are appealing . . .

But it's the charity behind these red-bottomed soles that makes this purchase worthy. All the proceeds will benefit the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) conservation, which has rescued 11 baby and young-adult elephants since its inception in 2006. Those pondering a pair should act fast. There are only 50 available.

In other words, it's so tragic that elephants are in mortal danger that you should kill cows to help protect the imperiled elephants?

To whom does that make sense or sound like a good idea?

  1. Any heeled shoe that necessitates an ankle strap strikes me as too dangerous to wear anyhow.

Then again, I rarely wear anything over an inch 🙂
