BIZARRO Review
As always, Dan Piraro delivers with his biting commentary of politics, religion, and, of course, our relationship with nonhuman animals.
BIZARRO and Other Strange Manifestations of the Art of Dan Piraro isn’t a mere compilation of cartoons. Piraro chronicles his journey from "Bible-Belt Baby" to sarcastic, left-leaning New Yorker, including the artists that influenced him, his personal (read: relationship) journey, why he cartoons, and where he gets his ideas from (answer: "thin air").
This book is a fascinating glimpse into a twisted, wickedly-funny mind. Piraro says many of the things we left-leaning, vegan types think, but rarely say in mixed company. And he cartoons, sketches, and paints those ideas in a way few people are able to.
Buy it. You’ll laugh out loud at nearly every page.
GRAY MATTER DISCLAIMER: Regarding Boycotting China, which I ordinarily do, please know that I realize this book was printed in China. I made a conscious choice to support the artist, who likely had no part in the decision to print in China. I’m sure that printing in the US would have been far more expensive for a large, colorful book (the current retail price is $24.95). Every Gray Matter is a personal choice. Supporting the artist trumped the China issue for me–this time.
