New: The Animal Person Minute
This is Mary Martin with the first ever Animal Person Minute. My intention is to do one of these each week and post a picture, as another intention I have is to hone my photography skills, if I can be said to have any. Every time I visit the Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary website or Deb’s blog Invisible Voices and marvel at the magnificent photos, I am humiliated by my inability to take a decent picture. So I’ll be working on that, probably for the rest of my life, which could be quite a lengthy process, but you’ve gotta start somewhere. This is Charles Hobson Booger, III, one of my two rescue greyhounds, and is he not gorgeous.
Today’s topic, which came by way of a post about icons by, again, Deb at Invisible Voices, is: gurus, mentors and teachers. . .
Hey, thanks for the mention! And thanks for your thoughts on gurus. It really helped me see yet more clearly what has been bothering me for a while now. I've been thinking about this a lot, obviously, and much of what you said was right in line with the conclusions I'd come to. What was interesting to me is that when you described what a true guru is, I was reminded of a conversation I had with someone back in January. We were talking about non-violence, something I know only the smallest vaguest bit about, and he'd say something that was thought provoking, and then (gasp!) give me time to think about it. I'd turn it over in my head, come up with a follow up thought or another question, and…well, it was really an amazing way to have a conversation, to learn from someone. I was being guided, not force-marched. It was good to remember what that felt like – I'd been dwelling far too much on the negative interactions I've had lately!
That is a beautiful picture of Charles! His personality, his happiness, they come shining through the picture. You're not allowed to insult your photography skills when you can come up with a picture like that!
Great picture, of a great dog, taken by a great person.
