URGENT and Graphic: Greyhounds Need You
I never thought I’d be promoting YouTube, but please send anyone you know who watches Greyhound racing to view a race from August 19, at the Mardi Gras Racetrack, which is formerly the Hollywood Greyhound track, where the exquisite Violet Rays did most of her racing.
One dog falls on the first turn, no one helps him/her, and when the injured dog got up, he/she starting running in the wrong direction–colliding with the other dogs. It’s horrifying!
We don’t know what happened to the dogs, as injuries aren’t required to be reported. If any of the injuries were serious, the injured dogs would have been killed.
The worst part of all this is that if someone has simply removed the dog from the track after he/she fell, the subsequent injuries wouldn’t have occurred.
I don’t ever reblog, but this post came from the Animal Rights Foundation of Florida, which every Animal Person in Florida should be supporting. The blog started recently and has a constant stream of action alerts that you can get by e-mail so you don’t have to remember to go to the blog.
Here’s your opportunity to act:
1. Write to Mardi Gras Racetrack and urge them to institute safeguards to prevent future tragedies.

2. Contact the Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering, which regulates greyhound racing in Florida, and request that they develop regulations to ensure that the safety of dogs takes precedence over whether a race is completed.
