Should my dogs be vegetarians?
Gray Matters are those issues that aren’t as black and white as they may appear.
I have two rescue greyhounds, Violet Rays (diabetic, blind in one eye) and Charles Hobson Booger, III (don’t ask). I’ve been feeding them the controversial BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food or Bones And Raw Food) diet, which is mostly raw meat and bones.
Two things:
1) The obvious: I am a vegan. (Dogs are omnivores, like us, and we do fine as vegetarians, so that’s not a problem. I also have a cat, but because they really are carnivores I’d never attempt a transition to vegetarianism.) Whether I purchase free-range, organic, grass-fed, blah, blah, or not, I am supporting the slaughter of the animals.
2) When I do purchase the good stuff, it’s VERY expensive (hundreds per month) to feed the dogs. When I don’t get the good stuff, I feed them the meat of animals pumped with hormones, antibiotics, etc., and who weren’t fed their natural diets. Basically, the meat is garbage, and if I ate meat, I certainly wouldn’t eat factory-farmed meat.
The plan? Call the homeopath and ask her for advice. She’s got a freaky intuitive thing and she’s never been wrong.
